Definition

The Day Master is the Heavenly Stem of the day pillar in a Saju chart. It represents the self, and every other character is interpreted by its relationship to this stem.

Why It Matters

Saju has eight characters: four Heavenly Stems and four Earthly Branches. Among them, the Day Master acts as the chart’s anchor. Wealth, authority, output, companions, and resources are all defined relative to the Day Master.

Example

If the Day Master is Wood, then Earth can become Wealth because Wood controls Earth. If the Day Master is Fire, then Metal can become Wealth because Fire controls Metal. The same element can mean different things depending on the Day Master.

FAQ

Is the Day Master the same as my zodiac sign?
No. A zodiac sign is a Western astrological sign. The Day Master is a Saju/Bazi stem.

Is a strong Day Master always good?
No. Saju values balance. Too strong can be rigid; too weak can be unstable.
